Join renowned Hopi-Tewa potter Dorothy Ami for a week long course at the Museum of Northern Arizona, as she leads you through the entire process of creating your own traditional pottery. From collecting natural materials and tempering to burning sheep dung for an open air firing, Ami continues the practices of her ancestors. Participants will make two small pots using the coil and scrape technique, and designs will be painted freehand using brushes and handmade paints. The course will also include a museum tour. Ami is the owner of “Smoking Trails Arts and Crafts” and has won many awards for her pottery. Her work is often showcased at the annual Hopi Festival at the Museum of Northern Arizona and at other galleries around the region.
