Mata Ortiz Pottery

Mata Ortiz Pottery, (previously know as Casas Grandes pottery) named after the small village in Chihuahua, Mexico, where it originated and is now being produced, has achieved the enviable status as perhaps one of the more innovative ceramics movements to evolve in the twentieth century.

Unlike Native American potters, these artists are not confined to stylistic traditions. Rather, these potters have had the unique ability to follow any successful tangent, in whatever direction the artist feels to explore. For this reason, their pottery has achieved unrivaled diversity in style, design, and creativity.

The Museum Shop displays the finest and most diverse selection possible, with emphasis on showcasing the many excellent, yet less publicized artists, in addition to the most well known and highly collected potters working today.
